General procedure: A mixture of 1 (5.68 mmol) and potassium tert-butoxide (7.59 mmol) in 80 ml of anhydrous THF was heated under reflux for 1 h. After cooling to 0 C, a solution of ethylbromoacetate (7.78 mmol) in 20 ml of THF was slowly added. The reaction mixture was then stirred for 5 h at room temperature.
