A mixture of ethyl 5-iodo-1-methyl-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (7.5 g, 26.8 mmol) and lithium hydroxide (6.4 g, 268.0 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (100 mL) and water (100 mL) was stirred at 25 C. for 15 h and concentrated under reduced pressure. The formed solid was collected by filtration, washed with water (20 mL) and dried in vacuo to afford crude 5-iodo-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid (6.0 g, 89%) as a white solid, used as is in the next step.
