A mixture of 5-iodo-1H-pyrazole (10 g, 51.55 mmol), 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran (13 g, 154.55 mmol), TsOH (443 mg, 2.57 mmol) in ethyl acetate (200 mL) was stirred for 3 h at 80 C. The resulting mixture was washed with water. The organic phase was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with dichloromethane/petroleum ether (3/7) to afford 3-iodo-1-(oxan-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole (7.0 g, 25.18 mmol) as a white solid.
