A sequential and general strategy has been successfully developed for the synthesis of spiropyrazolone scaffolds. This intriguing transformation of the asymmetric multicomponent catalysis process was realized with the combination of Michael addition/chlorination/nucleophilic substitution in a one-pot sequence, giving rise to a series of spiropyrazolones with fully substituted cyclopropanes and spiro-dihydrobenzofurans containing continuous stereogenic centers in good yields with excellent stereoselectivities.

We report herein a palladium-catalyzed ligand-promoted asymmetric dearomatization of indoles via the decarbonylation of thioesters and the subsequent reductive Heck reaction. Three novel mixed ligand Zn(II) complexes {complex 1 = [Zn(L1)(2)(bpy)], complex 2 = [Zn(L2)(2)(bPY)], complex 3 = [Zn(L2)(2)(phen)], where bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline} of 4-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-(3-chlorophenyl)-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (HL1) and 4-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methyl-2-(p-tolyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (HL2) were synthesized and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, FTIR, TG-DTA, UV-Vis, elemental analysis, molar conductance and single crystal X-ray structure determination. Based on analytical and spectroscopic techniques, all the three Zn(II) complexes were found to have a distorted octahedral geometry. The ligands and the complexes were screened for antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum. The zinc(II) complexes showed greater antimalarial activity than their parent ligands. The current work investigates the performance of a real-time scan conversion algorithm for generating a 2-D ultrasound image from a laterally scanned single-element ultrasound transducer, which has applications in point-of-care devices such as for skin imaging. The algorithm employs a fixed calibration curve to update a predefined image grid in real time. Simulations showed that the calibration curve (with a maximum of 1) is robust to changes in scatterer concentration (8.3 x 10(-3) mean absolute error), signal to noise ratio (1.0 x 10(-3) mean absolute error for -5 dB SNR), and can be accurately predicted from a small number (31) of point scatterers (6.9 x 10(-3) mean absolute error). Good agreement was also found between the calibration curves obtained from simulated and experimental data (1.19 x 10(-2) mean absolute error). The scan conversion algorithm was validated by evaluation of the position estimation errors on both simulations and experiments. Clinical images of skin lesions (N = 20) demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm for real, non-homogeneous tissue. Use of a fixed calibration curve compared to an adaptive calibration curve gave similar accuracies in the scanning step size range of 150-350 mu m (with an average overlap of the accuracy ranges of 92.94% for simulations and 42.83% for experiments), and a 350-fold improvement in computation time.

Reported herein is the pyrazole-directed iridium-catalyzed enantioselective borylation of unbiased methylene C-H bonds at the position beta to a nitrogen center. The combination of a chiral bidentate boryl ligand, iridium precursor, and pyrazole directing group was responsible for the high regio- and enantioselectivity observed. The method tolerated a vast array of functional groups to afford the corresponding C(sp(3))-H functionalization products with good to excellent enantioselectivity.

The removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution has been investigated using new tunable 1-aryl-2-alkyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazolium hexafluorophosphate salts ([Ph(R)C(R?)pz][PF6], R: -Cl, -Br, -Me, -OMe, R?: -C2H5, or -C4H9) as an extractant and methylene chloride as a diluent. The influence of p-substituent and alkyl chain length on the removal efficiency of MB from aqueous solution was investigated. The obtained results show that MB was extracted from aqueous solution with high extraction efficiency up to 99.7 % in a very short time. The salt (4a) used for extraction of MB was recovered and reused for four runs.

Herein, a phosphine-free pincer ruthenium(III) catalyzed beta-alkylation of secondary alcohols with primary alcohols to alpha-alkylated ketones and two different secondary alcohols to beta-branched ketones are reported.
