Using TiOiPr4 with a pyrazole ligand for one-pot LA polymerization improved catalytic activity compared with using TiOiPr4 only. At 60 degrees C, TiOiPr4 with furPz exhibited a higher catalytic activity (approximately 3-fold) than TiOiPr4. In this work, we report three deep-blue emitting cationic iridium complexes Ir1-Ir3 with 2′,6′-difluoro-2,3′-bipyridine cyclometalated ligand and pyrazole-type ancillary ligands. Synthesis, crystal structure, photophysical and electrochemical properties of Ir1-Ir3 are studied in detail. Ir1-Ir3 exhibit efficient phosphorescence emissions at 439, 438 and 437 nm with CIE 1931 coordinates of (0.14, 0.12), (0.14, 0.12) and (0.14, 0.13), and luminescence quantum yields of 0.35, 0.27 and 0.50 in CH2Cl2 solutions, respectively, which are among the highest levels of ever reported cationic iridium(III) complexes emitting deep-blue light. High luminescence quantum yields, excellent color purity and short lifetimes demonstrates the great potential of Ir1-Ir3 for lightemitting electrochemical cells (LECs) and solution-processable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as efficient blue emitters.

A new series of 2,4-dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxamide derivatives bearing benzimidazole moiety was synthesized through a molecular hybridization approach and evaluated for in vitro anticancer activity by NCI-60 on leukemia, melanoma, lung, colon, CNS, ovarian, renal, prostate and breast cancer cell lines at a single dose (10 mu M). Among all the synthesized conjugates, some derivatives showed more or less good activity even at such a small dose, while, compound 5-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl) N (1-cyclohexylethyl)-2,4-dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxamide (80 displayed significant antiproliferative activity specifically against MDA-MB human cancer cell lines. Compound 8f showed promising activity against MDA-MB-435 cell line of melanoma (Growth inhibition: 62.46%) and MDA-MB-468 cell line of breast (Growth inhibition: 40.24%). Computational ADME study qualified its significant physicochemical, pharmacokinetic and drug-likeness properties with good predicted oral bioavailability. Thus this new hybrid molecules would be useful for further anticancer drug development.

Background: Transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRBx) or transperineal Bx (TPBx) are considered alternative approaches for the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). However, urinary tract infection (UTI) or other complications could be more frequent in the TRBx approach. Objective: To determine the complication rate following different antimicrobial prophylaxis (AMP; fosfomycin trometamol [FT] vs beta-lactame or fluorochinolones [FQ]) in patients undergoing TRBx or TPBx. Design, setting, and participants: The analyses were based on prospectivelycollected data of a cohort of patients who underwent TRBx or TPBx for elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA; >= 4 ng/ml) or clinical suspicion of PCa, between September 2016 and March 2017. Patients received a single dose of 3 g oral FT (group A) or, alternatively, FQ or beta-lactame (group B). Intervention:TRBx versus TPBx. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Adjustment variables consisted of age, PSA, biopsy technique (TPBx vs TRBx), and antibiotic prophylaxis (FT vs beta-lactame or FQ) using 1:1 propensity-score matching. Overall, 526 patients were considered, of whom 258 received FT (group A) and the other 258 received beta-lactame or FQ (group B). Results and limitations: Overall complications occurred in 390 (75.58%) and major complications in 67/516 (12.98%). Lower prevalence of UTIs was detected in group A (34.1%) compared with that in group B (43.4%; p = 0.03), while similar rates of haematuria (54.7% vs 55.4%), haemospermia (39.5% vs 33.0%), and acute urinary retention (11.6% vs 9.3%) were detected in groups A and B. We found that group B (odds ratio [OR]: 1.54; p = 0.03), I grade haematuria (OR: 6.17; p < 0.01), and II grade haematuria (OR: 5.13; p < 0.01) were significantly associated with increased risk of UTIs. Conclusions: AMP with fluoroquinoles or beta-lactam antibiotics increased the rate of UTIs, when compared with FT, in patients undergoing TRBx or TPBx. The appearance of haematuria or haemospermia is associated with UTIs, suggesting the possibility of tailoring the strategy for prophylaxis in this category of patients. A berberine 9-O-pyrazole alkyl derivative, a chemical compound (called B3) previously synthesized by our group, shows anti-cancer activity. However, B3 lacks targeting cytotoxicity to cancer cells, leading to obvious toxic side effects on normal cells. To solve this problem, here, we prepared a drug delivery system, namely, AS1411-GO/B3 for tumor targeting, in which nano-graphene oxide (GO) sheets were employed as the drug carrier, and the aptamer AS1411 was conjugated onto GO for tumor targeting. GO also had a photothermal effect, which helped the release of B3 from GO as well as the thermal cytotoxicity to cells. We found that the release of B3 could respond to acid conditions, indicating that the tumor intracellular environment could promote the release of B3, thus allowing it to perform chemotherapy effects. This system could also release B3 in response to photothermal heating, moreover, combined photothermal therapy and chemotherapy to improve the anticancer activity was achieved. This AS1411-GO/B3 platform with chemo-photothermal synergetic therapy provides a very promising treatment for tumors.

CO2 capture by ionic liquids has been successfully achieved, indicating that the adsorption of CO2 plays an important role in the activation and transformation of CO2. In this work, highly efficient capture of CO2 is investigated with several novel ILs, which were prepared from bicyclic amidine (DBN) with pyrazole derivatives. Among the kinds of DBN-based ILs, it is found that the optimal absorption capacity (0.93 mol CO2/mol IL) can be achieved by [DBNH][3-MethylPyr] at 40 degrees C and atmospheric pressure. In view of analysis, the significant increase in CO2 capacity was affected by the reactivity of activated nitrogen, steric hindrance and the type of substituents. On the basis of the spectroscopic investigation and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation, the absorption mechanism was illustrated, it was verified that anions can react with CO2 to form carbamates. Meanwhile, charge analysis reasonably elucidated the diversity of absorption capacity in various ILs. It suggested that electric-charge distribution of activated nitrogen in pyrazole ring system can play an important role in determining the reaction of ILs with CO2. Importance: treatment of dementia in individuals with comorbidities is complex, leading to potentially inappropriate prescribing (PIP). The impact of PIP in this population is unknown. Objective: to estimate the rate of PIP and its effect on adverse health outcomes (AHO). Design: retrospective cohort. Setting: primary care electronic health records linked to hospital discharge data from England. Subjects: 11,175 individuals with dementia aged over 65 years in 2016 and 43,463 age- and sex-matched controls. Methods: Screening Tool of Older Persons’ Prescriptions V2 defined PIP. Logistic regression tested associations with comorbidities at baseline, and survival analyses risk of incident AHO, adjusted for age, gender, deprivation and 14 comorbidities. Results: the dementia group had increased risk of PIP (73% prevalence; odds ratio [OR]: 1.92; confidence interval [CI]: 83-103%; P < 0.01) after adjusting for comorbidities. Most frequent PIP criteria were related to anti-cholinergic drugs and therapeutic duplication. Risk of PIP was higher in patients also diagnosed with coronary-heart disease (odds OR: 2.17; CI: 1.91-2.46; P < 0.01), severe mental illness (OR: 2.09; CI: 1.62-2.70; P < 0.01); and depression (OR: 1.81; CI: 1.62-2.01; P < 0.01). During follow-up (1 year), PIP was associated with increased all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 1.14; CI: 1.021.26; P < 0.02), skin ulcer and pressure sores (hazard ratio: 1.66; CI: 1.12-2.46; P< 0.01), falls (hazard ratio: 1.37; CI: 1.15-1.63; P < 0.01), anaemia (hazard ratio: 1.61; CI: 1.10-2.38; P < 0.02) and osteoporosis (hazard ratio: 1.62; CI: 1.022.57; P < 0.04). Conclusion: patients with dementia frequently receive PIPs, and those who do are more likely to experience AHO. This study provides a phenomenological method to describe the exponential growth, saturation, and decay of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths and infections via a Monte Carlo approach. The calculations connect Gompertz-type trial distributions of infected people per day with the distribution of deaths adopting two gamma distributions to account for the elapsed time that encompass the incubation and symptom onset to death periods. The analyses include death data from the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the United Kingdom (UK), India, and Russia, which comprise the four countries with the highest number of deaths and the four countries with the highest number of confirmed cases, as of August 07, 2020, according to theWorld Health Organization webpage. The Gompertz functions were fitted to the data of weekly averaged confirmed deaths per day by mapping the chi(2) values. The uncertainties, variances, and covariances of the model parameters were calculated by propagation, taking into account the standard errors of the data for each epidemiological week. The fitted functions for the average deaths per day for the USA and India have an upward trend, with the former having a higher growth rate and quite huge uncertainties. For Mexico, the UK, and Russia, the fits are consistent with a downward-sloping pattern. For Brazil we found a subtle trend down but with significant uncertainties. The USA, UK, and India data showed first peaks with higher growth rates compared with the second ones (4.2, 2.2, and 3.5 times higher, respectively), demonstrating the benefits of nonpharmacological interventions of sanitary measures and social distance flattening the secondary peaks of the pandemic. For the case of the USA, however, a third peak seems quite plausible, most likely related with the recent relaxation policies. Brazil’s data are satisfactorily described by two highly overlapped Gompertz functions with similar growth rates, suggesting a two-step process for the pandemic spreading. For the cases of Mexico and Russia single peaks with smoother slopes fitted the data satisfactorily. The 95% confidence intervals for the total number of deaths (x10(3)) predicted by the model for August 31, 2020, are 160 to 220, 110 to 130, 59 to 62, 41.3 to 41.4, 54 to 63, and 16.0 to 16.7 for the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the UK, India, and Russia, respectively. Our estimates for the point prevalences of infections are compared with some preliminary data from serological studies and/or model calculations focused on the USA, Brazil, and UK scenarios. The point prevalences and 95% confidence intervals for August 1, 2020, were estimated to be 5.7 (3.9-7.5)%, 8.9 (7.4-10.3)%, 9.3 (8.3-10.3)%, 5.7 (4.5-6.9)%, 0.9 (0.8-1.0%), and 1.2 (1.0-1.3)% for the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the UK, India, and Russia, respectively. The method represents an effective few-parameter framework to estimate the line shape of the infection curves and the uncertainties of the relevant parameters based on the actual death data of a pandemic.
